Success Story

There were five children in the household, all subject to their mother's many "boyfriends", drugs and abuse. There was no structure in the home. They had been sexually molested, physically abused and emotionally tortured. Child Protective Services (CPS) received a report and the children were removed from the home and placed in foster care. A CASA (Court Appointed Special Adovcate) was appointed the case. The CASA met with the children and the family. She worked with CPS to secure counseling, therapy, a stable home environment. The children all wanted to "go home" but home was not a safe place. The parents chose not to work with CPS and their parental rights were terminated. Now what? FIVE children in need of a safe, loving home. CASA and CPS worked with one of the foster families and they agreed to take all of the children into their home. It wasn't without it's headaches and heartaches, but the family ended up adopting all of the children. The children are now doing very well. The CASA volunteer stayed in contact with the family throughout the process and was the "eyes and ears" of the court, providing the judge valuable information so he could make decisions for these children's futures. It was heartbreaking at times but always worth the effort and rewarding when at least one child (in this case, five children) are saved from future abuse and neglect. Help make a difference in the life of a child, become a CASA volunteer.
